Can I use machine translation in a client’s project?

You can, as long as you maintain high-quality standards and meet the client’s requirements. Using unedited, poor-quality machine translation output is unacceptable. In this case, the client may want to renegotiate the price, or even refuse to pay.

In Smartcat, a separate service called post-editing of machine translation (PEMT) is available. A post-editor modifies and corrects the text automatically generated by a machine translation service to iron out any errors and inconsistencies. PEMT is a more cost-efficient process compared to the traditional approach because the quality requirements are usually lower.

Please avoid using machine translation without prior approval from the client. If it was the client’s choice to use machine translation in the project, ask them via built-in chat whether they expect post-editing of machine translation output or unaided human translation from scratch.
